Instructions

  1. 1.
Begin by rinsing the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rice with 1 cup of water in a small saucepan. Cover and bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to a simmer and cook for about 15 minutes until water is absorbed and rice is tender. Fluff the rice with a fork, then stir in the grated fresh ginger to infuse it with flavor. Turn off the heat and keep covered to maintain warmth.
  2. 2.
While the rice is cooking, gently pat the tofu cubes dry using a paper towel to remove excess moisture. This will help in achieving a crispy texture when seared. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and add the tofu cubes, turning occasionally until they are golden brown on all sides, about 8 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. 3.
In the same skillet, reduce the heat to low and add 1 tablespoon of miso paste along with a splash of water to create a glaze. Stir quickly to dissolve the miso and prevent it from sticking. If the glaze is too thick, add a bit more water to reach a smooth consistency.
  4. 4.
Return the tofu to the skillet and gently coat with the miso glaze. Cook for an additional 2 minutes, letting the tofu absorb the savory flavors while ensuring the glaze doesn’t burn—lower the heat if necessary.
  5. 5.
To serve, place the ginger-infused rice on a plate and top with the miso-glazed tofu cubes. Ensure even distribution of both tofu and glaze for a balanced taste. Enjoy promptly for the best texture.
